The Gate Foodbank at The Gate Charity, Ludgate, Alloa

As you may know, The Gate is a local Charity, set up in 2011, by Alloa Ludgate Church (Church of Scotland) to prevent or relieve poverty and improve the conditions of life of people who are marginalised, facing exclusion, vulnerable or homeless in the Clackmannanshire area.

One of their projects was to create a foodbank and many organisations and individuals have been contributing to this over the years, including Dollar, Glendevon and Muckhart Churches.

Prior to lockdown due to Covid-19, donations were handed in to Muckhart Church. However, whilst the Church remains closed, anyone wishing to make a donation can hand these in to Danny and Greer Conroy at 6 Cairns Place, MuckhartTel. 781330.

These donations will be delivered, every Thursday morning, to The Gate.

Items required are pasta, breakfast cereal, tinned – fruit, vegetables, soup, meat and fish, packets of dried foodstuffs, etc. and personal hygiene/toiletries.

Thank you.

Time and space service for people emotionally affected by Covid-19

Time and Space – is a confidential response service for people struggling emotionally in response to the coronavirus and its impact on them and their families, and who would like to talk with someone about their anxieties and concerns, now and post Covid-19.

We especially want to reach out to people for whom the threat or experience of the coronavirus has affected their mental health in ways they could not have possibly imagined or experienced.

Whether it is about how you can better manage the current restrictions of lockdown and close confinement of your own home conditions, restricted or loss of physical contact with family and friends, worries about money and benefits because of threat of redundancy and loss of income – we can offer listening support and information about additional support services for you and your family.

Time and Space is for anyone 16 years and over living in Stirling and Clackmannanshire. We welcome self-referrals. All it takes is an email or telephone call to Action in Mind, as follows:

Muckhart Bread Co-op

A local resident has linked up with Wild Hearth Bakery, based in Comrie, in an initiative to enable great bread and pastries to be supplied to Muckhart residents without a delivery charge and at a reduced individual minimum order value. Wild Hearth offer direct-to-customer retail, giving us the opportunity to have delivery convenience and access to a great product.

The link below will take you to a document that explains the background to this initiative and how it will work.

Jo Wills has volunteered to act as the Co-op Leader for Muckhart and, once orders start to come through in number, the Coronation Hall will act as a central point for delivery and collection (with appropriate hygiene and social distancing measures in place). In the early stages, Wild Hearth will continue to deliver direct to door but at the reduced minimum coop member order value of £8.

Co-op deliveries to Muckhart will take place on a Tuesday and product and pricing information can be found below.

Please feel free to contact Jo for further information:

Update: H49 Planning Appeal

This post is to provide a brief update on the latest information regarding the H49 appeal process which is now well underway. Further documentation has been submitted onto the DPEA web-site and a Government Reporter has now been appointed.

Residents who submitted comments, previously, during the Planning Application process, will now have received a second letter from the Council. This letter advises that the Council, in their first letter, provided an incorrect email address, to be used to make further representations to the DPEA, as part of the appeal process. The correct email address has now been supplied and the ‘cut-off’ date for further representations to be made, consequently, has been extended to 11th May.

Those members of our community who have received this letter are free to submit further comments, as part of appeal process. However, what is not really clear, from both letters, is that any comments to be submitted should only cover new points or issues to be raised and should not repeat previous comments made, as these have already been submitted to the Reporter.

The advice on appeals (Planning Circular 4/2013) states the following:

  1. As representations previously made and lodged with the planning authority by interested parties will be taken into account before a decision is reached on the appeal, there is no need or expectation for the same matters to be raised again with Scottish Ministers.  Nevertheless, regulation 5(4) allows that interested parties may make further representations to Scottish Ministers in respect of the appeal within 14 days beginning with the date notice is given of the appeal.

Finally, MCC is coordinating and preparing a further submission, on behalf of our community, based on key issues and points raised in Springfield’s ‘Grounds for Appeal’ document which we will be countering.

H49 Planning Appeal by Springfield

This post is just to keep everyone in our community aware of the current status of the formal Planning Appeal, submitted by Springfield, relating to site H49.

Further to the submission by Springfield of a formal appeal, multiple documents have now been uploaded onto the Planning and Environment Appeals Division (DPEA) website. However, currently, the case is indicated as ‘ Not yet ready for allocation to reporter’, although this is likely to change, moving forward. The case number is: PPA-150-2008 (Planning Permission Appeal).

MCC has concerns about what has, and what has not, been posted, to date, and is seeking clarification, on a number of matters, with the parties involved.

It is still early days in the overall appeal process, in particular, given the current situation regarding COVID-19. However, we anticipate more information on the next steps will come forward, once a Reporter has been appointed.

You can access and view the documents and communications submitted regarding the Appeal, on the DPEA website, via the following link:

MCC will issue a further update, once we have been advised of the next steps in the process.
